EXPLANATION OF THE RESEARCH and WHAT YOU WILL DO:
You have been invited to participate in
this research study to help us understand college student reactions to the
serious problem of harassment based on apparent player gender in online games.
You will be asked to complete a short,
online, anonymous survey. Participating in the research would take about
15 minutes of your time.

YOUR RIGHTS TO PARTICIPATE, SAY NO, OR WITHDRAW:
Participation in this research project is completely
voluntary. You have the right to say no.
You may change your mind at any time and withdraw. You may choose not to answer
specific questions or to stop participating at any time. Your privacy will be
protected. Your answers are completely anonymous and your name will not be
linked to the data in any way. Whether
you choose to answer all questions or skip some will not impact whether you
receive extra credit.
Many of these questions are direct
quotes of harassing comments experienced by female gamers. The quotes include
vulgar language and language and sexual innuendo.
If you are concerned
that exposure to these statements will upset or offend you, please consider
not participating. If you begin this study, and decide partway through that the
statements are too offensive, you are free to stop participating at any time.
COSTS AND COMPENSATION FOR BEING IN THE STUDY:
You will receive no compensation for being in the study, nor will you incur any costs for doing so.
